Le Richieliu
18126 Atlantic Boulevard
Scheduled for demo; convert to small park
The City has secured an agreement with a contractor that will manage the safe demolition of the Le Richieliu building, pending approvals from the Department of Environmental Resources Management and permits from the City. The expectation for the space is that it will be converted into a small park to serve as an extension of Pelican Community Park. As of now, the major work is scheduled to start in the summer of 2024.
Intracoastal Sports Park
158 Street & Collins Avenue
This City-owned .63 acre parcel of land along with an adjacent park easement, located at the northwest corner of 158 Street to 159 Street and Collins Avenue, and is planned to be an extension of the Intracoastal Park system. With a playground at Intracoastal Park South, there has been a demand for restrooms for those users. Additionally, there have been requests for active recreation in the form of tennis, pickleball and basketball. This project includes the design and construction of a few multi-use courts for these activities as well as a small building for restrooms, storage and a staff member, along with a small parking lot. It is planned to be a resident-only park to serve our entire community. Currently, the contract for all of the plans are in a bidding process.
Bella Vista Bay Park Renovation
466 NE 163 Street
Completed design plans include public bathrooms, a concession area and a decking and landscaping system that will provide for ecological education and an opportunity to pursue water sports. Also includes funding for seawall design and installation, and mangrove mitigation. Dock repairs from Hurricane Irma damage is included under this project and has been partially reimbursed by FEMA. We are also anticipate building a marine patrol office and this dock will accommodate marine patrol boat lifts and a jet ski lift. Once the Parks and Recreation master plan is completed, conceptual ideas include a walking path, benches, non-motorized water sports and the potential for a water taxi in the future.
Golden Shores Pump Station
Reconstruction phase
Following up on the recent work completed for the Golden Shores Pump Station which includes painting, repairing fencing, and deep cleaning. The City plans to continue to improve, renovate, and rebuild the pump station to enhance/maintain the quality of life within the Golden Shores neighborhood. As of now, The Golden Shores storm water pump station is in need of an overall upgrade. This project will consist of replacing the small and large existing vertical turbine pumps with two new variable speed vertical turbine pumps with twice the pump capacity of the existing station. The old generator room will be converted into an electrical room for controls. A new standalone generator will be installed along the north side of the station and will be run off a new natural gas service. The parking lot will be raised to prevent flooding during king tides. The building will be upgraded to include architectural features to make it more esthetic.
Central Island Pump Stations Project
In design phase
The City is finalizing the design for bidding of the Central Island Drainage Project to improve its storm water pumping capacity. While still in the design phase, The City is planning to build 2 new pump stations for the Central Island neighborhood in efforts to continue to improve flood-prone areas within the city. As a start, this project includes improvements to the drainage system to minimize the amount of flooding for the areas north of 174th street to 183rd street and Atlantic Avenue to North Bay Road.
Golden Shores Undergrounding
Pulling wires and reconnecting services
Through the City’s on-going Storm water Management System preventive maintenance program, necessary system repairs have been identified in the Golden Shores neighborhood. The project consists of an analysis of the drainage for any necessary improvements and upgrades, review of other underground utilities for necessary improvements to sewer, gas and potable water, and the undergrounding of utilities. Additional improvements include updated street lights and roadway reconstruction with an entranceway streetscape that includes sidewalk and curb connecting Collins Avenue to Atlantic Blvd. Pavement, striping and landscaping/sod disturbed during the repairs and undergrounding will also need to be replaced as part of this project. There is a proposed special assessment to the residents for these improvements. Currently, contractors have been coordinating efforts to remove wiring and reconnect services.
City Annex
Convert to Building Department
The City has decided to make use of the former Tony Roma’s building next door to the Government Center. Now known as the Government Annex, the Tony Roma’s building will be converted in an office space for the Building Department to serve as the new location for the public to schedule permitting, construction appointments, or walk-ins. A total renovation of the building is now underway which includes replacement of A/C units, maintenance repairs to the roof, Upgraded all light fixtures on the exterior and electrostatic paint of the outside structure, as well as the exterior paint of the entire building.
