On September 11, 1997, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 97-11, which authorized a “Seal Contest” with a prize of $100 for the design of a City seal. The rules specified that all residents of the City were eligible to submit one entry to the contest and that the words “Sunny Isles Beach” and the color blue must be visible in the design. The rules also suggested that the words “Florida” and the year of incorporation “1997” be visibly displayed as well.
On January 22, 1998, the City Commission declared the entry submitted by Mr. Charles Wachsberg as the winner of the seal contest. Mr. Wachsberg was presented with a check for $100 and a commemorative plaque for having designed the contest-winning City Seal. Additionally, the City Commission proclaimed February 16, 2006 as “Charles Wachsberg Day” in the City of Sunny Isles Beach in honor of Mr. Wachsberg’s dedication to the City and its citizens.
In 2007 the City commissioned postage stamps featuring the City seal. As a token of appreciation, the City Commission presented Mr. Wachsberg with a framed sheet of first-run Sunny Isles Beach Special First-Class postage stamps.
The seal Mr. Wachsberg designed is prominently displayed at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center and on other city collateral.
