Last month, the City of Sunny Isles Beach had the honor of partnering with Miami-based artist Luli Sulichin to present two powerful and immersive art installations—Saltwater Tears and Caged Pacifiers. These works were created in remembrance of the October 7 attacks, offering a poignant and emotional experience for all who encountered them.
Caged Pacifiers brings attention to the heartbreaking realities faced by children affected by geopolitical conflicts. The exhibition featured a series of suspended cages, each cradling a glowing pacifier. The installation encouraged visitors to reflect on the innocence lost and the profound impact of war on the youngest and most vulnerable.
Saltwater Tears was a site-specific installation created especially for Sunny Isles Beach. This 12-foot outdoor piece consisted of a pyramid of cages, each holding delicate glass teardrops filled with ocean water. The use of saltwater as a symbol in Jewish tradition represents suffering, and this installation served as a moving tribute to grief, loss, and resilience. It transformed the landscape, inviting viewers to confront the emotional weight of conflict while promoting empathy, unity, and healing.
