New partnership with Forerunner enhances flood preparedness by offering residents with flood risk data and resources for individual properties.

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. (August 27, 2024) – The City of Sunny Isles Beach has launched a new flood risk portal, making it easier for residents, real estate professionals, insurance agents, and developers to seamlessly access flood risk information specific to individual properties. This portal also provides important documents like elevation certificates, contributing to the City’s ongoing efforts to build a more flood-resilient community.

Powered by Forerunner, a floodplain management platform, the portal delivers actionable, property-level flood risk information. Forerunner will help the City streamline compliance, enhance community outreach, better organize data, and improve floodplain management. It also supports the City’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).

Being a coastal city, nearly all of Sunny Isles Beach is in a flood zone and faces a high risk of flooding. The City has previously experienced major flooding events during past hurricanes, such as Wilma and Irma. Now with Forerunner, managing the growing number of permits will become more efficient, simplifying the floodplain management process.

“Implementing Forerunner’s software will not only ease our workload, but also make things easier on our community,” said Jim Hill, Chief Building Inspector. “Technologies like Forerunner will help us better communicate, educate, and protect our residents, while improving our overall operations at the local government level are a win for everyone involved.”

With tools like Forerunner and the addition of a new full-time Floodplain Coordinator in the fiscal year 2024-2025, the City aims to improve its current CRS rating of 8, to achieve better flood insurance discounts for residents.

“We love working with cities like Sunny Isles Beach, which are taking tangible steps to evolve their floodplain management efforts and build a more resilient community,” said Susanna Pho, Co-Founder and COO of Forerunner. “We consider ourselves a stepping stone and partner as they move towards effective, efficient, and proactive floodplain management for the foreseeable future.”
