The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department is accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation as a means to ensure compliance with the highest standards of the law enforcement profession. The police department first attained its accreditation status in October 2023.

In August 2023, a team of independent assessors analyzed all areas of our Police Department, including policies, procedures, operations, and training. The assessment revealed that our PD complies with all applicable standards, without any non-compliance issues. Achieving this accreditation involved adherence to numerous standards, encompassing areas such as patrol operations, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, conduct and discipline, evidence, and more. Accreditation enhances the police department’s ability to prevent and control crime through more effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services to our community.

The re-accreditation process takes place every three years, requiring the compliance of over 200 standards in order to maintain the accredited status.

The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for coordinating the accreditation process and ensuring the agency complies with law enforcement accreditation standards.
