Local Municipal Election – Sunny Isles Beach

Eligibility: Sunny Isles Beach residents who are qualified electors of the State and registered to vote in Miami-Dade County can participate in City elections.

Election Type: Elections for Mayor and City Commission are nonpartisan, meaning no party designations appear on the ballot.

Timing: General elections are held in even-numbered years alongside Miami-Dade County Elections.

Sunny Isles Beach 2026 General Election

The next General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the following seats:

  • Mayor
  • Commission Seat 2
  • Commission Seat 4

The qualifying period for these offices will start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and will end at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Any resident wishing to run for these offices must first submit forms DS-DE9 "Designation of Campaign Depository and Campaign Treasurer" and DS-DE84 "Statement of Candidate", before engaging in any campaign activities. Additional documents will be required during the qualifying period. Election & Candidacy Requirements

Term Length: The Mayor and each Commissioner serve four-year terms, elected at-large by the City’s electors. [Municipal Charter § 2.3(a)]

Residency Requirement: Candidates must reside in the area the represent at the time of qualifying, during the election, and throughout their term. [Municipal Charter § 2.3(b)]

Eligibility: Candidates must have resided in the City and their respective area from which they seek election for at least one year before qualifying. [Municipal Charter § 2.4]

Campaign Finance

Section 106.021, F.S., states that “A person may not accept any contribution or make any expenditure with a view to bringing about his or her nomination, election, or retention in public office, or authorize another to accept such contributions or make such expenditure on the person’s behalf, unless such person has appointed a campaign treasurer and designated a primary campaign depository.”

What is "at-large" voting?

All registered voters in the City can vote for any seat, regardless of their residential area. Every resident can vote for each commissioner or mayor.
