Sunny Isles Beach is ECOMMITTED

Sunny Isles Beach is “ECOMMITTED.” In a campaign called, “ECOMMITTED,” the city is promoting and fostering more eco-friendly and eco-driven adjustments that everyone can make in their daily lives to help save the planet. In addition, the city will be sharing the actions it has been taking throughout the years to be “ecommitted.” As a coastal community, Sunny Isles Beach is aware that taking care of our environment reaps only positive rewards and is imperative for any forward-thinking city. For the last several years, the city has been dedicated to saving electricity and water, as well as finding unique ways to implement renewable resources to provide services for residents and visitors.

Balloon Release Ban

The City Commission passed an ordinance banning intentional balloon releases within Sunny Isles Beach.

Clean Water Campaign

Clean water starts with you. There are a number of ways you can contribute to keeping our environment clean.

Commit to Clean Air

While the city cannot regulate smoking in outdoor restaurants, it believes that non-smokers and employees working at restaurants should be able to breathe smoke-free air.

Fill A Bag Stations

Turn your daily beach walk into a meaningful cleanup experience by picking up plastic and trash with buckets available at our Fill A Bag stations on the beach.

Mosquito Control in Sunny Isles Beach

The summer months are peak mosquito season. During this time, the City of Sunny Isles Beach implements a number of preventative measures to mitigate the mosquito population in our area.

Pesticide, Herbicide and Fertilizer Application

Pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers should be applied sparingly, not exceeding manufacturer’s directions.

Polystyrene Ban

Recognizing that polystyrene is harmful to the environment, the City Commission is taking action to limit it wherever possible within their purview.

Sea Turtle Conservation

Sea turtle nesting season in Miami-Dade County runs from March 1 to October 31. All sea turtles are either threatened or endangered.

Skip the Straw

The sale and distribution of plastic beverage straws and stirrers in Sunny Isles Beach is prohibited.

Tree Planting

The Neat Streets Grant provides funds for municipalities and organizations in Miami-Dade County to plant trees. In 2017, the City of Sunny Isles Beach was awarded a $14,000 grant.
